Hi guys! I bet you, as a student, get a lot of questions about your study. Why do you study there? Why do you study (fill in the name of your study here)? Isn't it boring as hell? Well, for everyone who is curious about my law school experience.. here are my answers to the most frequently asked questions!
Why did you want to go to law school in the first place? And why study in Leiden specifically?
Let me start off by telling you that being in law school wasn't my plan. At all. I wanted to become a ballet teacher. I am/was a dancer since I'm 5 years old and even went to a special high school to combine studying with dancing. I was classically trained (ballet) and did competitions in Latin-American with my partner(s) and streetdance with my school team. When I didn't get into the school I wanted, I needed to change my plan..
I thought I would only study law for one year and then get into the school I wanted after auditioning. Well, I didn't audition that year because I liked my study so freakin' much and I completely fell of the 'dance-wagon'. After years of law study (in lower levels) I finally got the chance to study at the University of Leiden/Leiden Law School. That I live nearby Leiden made the choice easier ofcourse..
International students do everything to get a spot in an international study at this universiteit and it is ranked as one of the best law schools in the world. Being a passionate student, I wanted the best of the best and when I got in... We partied hard! My mom and I, we were so happy and still are!
What do you think of your study now you're in your third year of uni?
I absolutely love it. I'm a very theory based student and that is exactly what you need to be. Ofcourse, some courses I like more than others (Philo of Law is my absolute favorite at the moment) but you will find that with any study! A love for reading is an absolute must too, because you have A LOT(!) to read for this study in particular. I think I could do any study (except an economic study) because I have a true passion for learning new things/studying, but this study has a special place in my heart!
Can you keep up with the level of study since you come from a lower level of (high)school?
For all my Dutch followers: I come from VMBO-T but I'm orginally a VMBO-K student. Because I was in such a 'low' level I had to go through two other schools to get into university/law school! That takes about 3/4 years for the first school and 4 years for the second school. I did the first in 3 years and the second in 1 year and got into uni with lovely scores.
The first year went great. Yes, I was just diagnosed after years of being sick but I could cope with it. The second year was miserable. I was getting more sick and it went down hill with my grades. This year I'm pretty stable. My grades are ok. I still don't pass all my exams the first time but I have courses where I do get good grades (Philo of Law lol)! I think, when you're a 'normal' student and you study hard, you can keep up with the level of study in university/law school just as good as any other student. You've got this!
That's it for today! These are the 3 most asked questions about my study aswered. If you have any other questions for me.. leave them down below and I will aswer them soon in another FAQ-post! Happy Monday!
