I've got my first official request! Yep, that is really exciting for me! As you may have guest from the title.. it's about my favorite efficient ways to study. Thank you @tugbainsta for submitting your question/request, I hope this blog post helps!
Let's start with my favorite way to study and remember case law: flashcards! I introduced this method last January whilst studying for my Civil Procedure Law exam. On one side I write down the name of the case in red pen (because I use the color red for case law everywhere, like summaries and such). On the other side I write down the rule of law in regular blue pen. When my exam is coming up, I revise by playing 'memory'. You might now this game from your childhood; you lay down the cards all facing one side (name of the case or rule of law) and try to name what is on the other side. When you do this enough times and you keep repeating it on the days before your exam.. It works. Try it yourself if you don't already use this method!
Attent all classes or watch them online if your school/uni gives you that option. Making notes while watching or attending an lecture makes your brain absorb the information. When you prepare your assignments for working groups your brain absorb information. You get it? Attending class and preparing for class makes studying at the end of the semester a lot easier because you already know the most important stuff. Reading your notes will fresh up your mind so you only have to focus on the details for exams. Do not be lazy, because you will regret that afterwards!
Summaries, you can buy them but you can also make them yourself and that is the way to go. Use all kind of notes in your homemade summaries. Lecture notes, working group notes and the text you've highlighted in your textbook.. together it makes the summary complete. I suggest making the summary divided in weeks so you know what the different weeks are about and you can find notes more easy while studying. I know it takes time but if you start early in the semester you can do it! I usually write all text in regular blue pen (when I write one by hand) except for the names of my case law of course.. to emphasize titles, concepts and articles I use different colored markers. Purple for titles, pink for concepts and blue for articles. This way, I can find certain doctrines and case law more easily!
I'm very curious about your study methods because I think there is always a way to improve your skills, right? Let me know in a comment below if you use any of the methods I recommend or if you would like to try a specific one. As I said, I'm a curious girl!
