How to deal with failure

Let's discuss a topic that seems to be avoided by some study gurus. Maybe they never have to deal with it, as I wish nobody needs to deal with it! But well, (almost) everyone feel like they fail once or twice in their life.. Right?

I always had problems with getting good grades, until I starting my third year in high school. I felt like things went more smooth in my life. Combining my dancing and studying became more 'normal' and I simple loved what I was doing. I think it had everything to do with choosing the courses I wanted to take instead of having to take all courses the school provided. Even in the last year of high school, the year I got chronically ill and wasn't at school that much, my grades went through the roof. It was insane! The first five years after high school, studying law in different levels of education, everything went just fine. Well, life turned around drastically..

In my second year of uni/law school I started to fail exams like crazy. What the F was happening? I know exactly what happened.. I got more and more sick than I ever was before. I slept whole afternoons, was to tired to make exams (but made them anyway ofcourse) and couldn't concentrate or remember what I needed to know for passing my exams. Although I studied my ass off, things didn't work out for me. Yep, there were exams I passed but I had to take three courses from that year in the next year again. I felt beaten by that stupid fibromyalgia. I felt f*cked up!

Many fellow students (who feel like they 'failed' just like I do) ask me how I handle 'failure'. I think that is a very difficult question, because everyone copes with things differently! I taught myself to acknowledge the fact that I didn't pass a certain exam but not to let it rule my mood. By giving myself a few minutes to say "well, that is shitty because I studied so hard" I can move on. Doing something you love to take off your mind works great. You doing a fun thing you enjoy, will make you 'forget' your bad grade for a moment.

You need to turn bad grades into a positive mindset to make you want to work even harder next time! Don't let anything bring you down. You got this!

Student hotspot | ROOS - Taste & Smile

You guessed what time it is.. Breakfast with bestie-time! As I've already told you guys in my previous student hotspot post  my best friend and I both study in Leiden. Since last time, four weeks ago, we try to meet up every other Wednesday to chat and eat together. After Anne & Max we wanted to try ROOS, which is located very close to the Law faculty as well. ROOS opens every day at 8 am and serve breakfast, lunch, high tea/wine/beer. I've also heard they have the best cake in town! While waiting for my bestie, I was an hour early, I got myself a fresh mint tea and read about an hour in my new book. On a side note: I love to read YA (young adult) fiction and Becky Albertalli is one of my absolute fav YA contemporary writers at the moment. Have you Simon vs the Homo sapiens Agenda from her yet? I love this one too! The first time we went, 2 weeks ago Bente got the scrambled eggs with bacon and avocado while I choose the Greek yoghurt with fruits and nuts and ...
